ACHIEVEMENT TESTS RESULTS

Below you will find Bethlehem's Lutheran School's most recent ITBS scores. Hopefully you will find them enlightening. Remember that the ITBS test is only a tool that we use to check on progress and to check ourselves. Many people forget that this testing is a part, and a rather small part of a child's education. It does not take into account how hard any child works and that they may have a hard time taking tests. Here are some things that the ITBS test tells us.

  1. To estimate the general developmental level of students so that materials and instructional procedures may be adapted To meet individual needs;
  2. To identify the areas of greatest and least development to use in planning individual instruction for early intervention;
  3. To establish a baseline of achievement information so that the monitoring of year-to-year developmental changes may begin;
  4. To provide information for making administrative programming decisions that will accommodate developmental differences;
  5. To identify areas of relative strength and weakness in the performances of groups (e.g., classes), which may have implications for curriculum change -- either in content or emphasis -- as well as for change in instructional procedures;
  6. To provide a basis for reports to parents that will enable home and school to work together in the students' best interests.

Something to remember if a child scored a total 213 correct on the test, their percentile rank would be 49 %. Yet if they scored a 214 their percentile rank would be a 52%. This would be a whole 3% in the rankings. If your class scored a 213 correct in the National School Norms their rank would be a 42% and yet if they scored a 214 their score would be 50%. This is a whole 8% higher in the ranking.

What does this all mean? One, two, or three right or wrong over a whole test can make a huge difference on this test. So don't get all excited if a child's score is high or low. Remember, this test is only a tool.
