Efforts
to begin a Lutheran Church in Carson City date back more than
100 years. However, Bethlehem Lutheran Church traces its formal
beginnings to 1956, when regular services were first begun by
a neighboring pastor. In 1959, the congregation was officially
organized and in 1960 Bethlehem became a member of The Lutheran
Church-Missouri Synod.
The first structure was built and dedicated in 1964, and three years
later a large fellowship wing was added. In 1985, the present worship area
was added and dedicated. The original worship area was converted to space for
Christian education.
Bethlehem Lutheran opened its Christian Day School in September of
1988. In 1992, the school opened its first school building with three
classrooms and a multipurpose room. By 1997, the school had expanded with the
addition of a six room addition to the school facility. Since 1993, our
school has had classes for students from preschool through eighth grade.
The congregation has been served by seven different pastors (one of
these serving in the role of assistant pastor) .
Throughout its history Bethlehem has been committed to the whole word of God, which centers in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bethlehem's ministries
today are characterized by that same commitment.
